Contribution of physical and anthropogenic factors to gully erosion initiation

Losses of large volumes soil through gully formation lead to serious environmental, societal, and economic problems for human societies. This study establishes a framework based on an artificial intelligence approach investigate the impact geo-environmental topo-hydrological factors occurrences in Biram region, Iran. The maximum entropy, random forest, boosted regression trees machine-learning models were applied. relative importance variables (RIV) was then determined erosion susceptibility maps generated. Model results evaluated using cutoff–dependent –independent metrics. All identified road construction as main cause region (RVI ranged between 27% 34%), medium contribution distance from stream = 15–18%), lithology 12–15%) land use 8–12%). Other such drainage density, topographic wetness index, aspect, slope, profile curvature, elevation plan curvature showed lower (RIV < 10%). Planners should pay attention minimizing along roads, so that river systems downstream communities are adequately protected.
